Barlow Respiratory Hospital is a new $80 million, 56-bed, long-term acute care, respiratory hospital located in the Elysian Park area of Los Angeles. This historic campus began as a tuberculosis sanitorium in 1902 and continues to provide state of the art specialized treatment for respiratory ailments.

SKA developed an exterior and interior signage program that closely integrates with the architecture and interior design details. Concrete, steel and acrylic are used for signage elements to compliment the building finishes. Interior signage was developed to have a subtle appearance using translucent acrylic sign panels to suggest light clear air, and the breath of life. Building directories and directional signage is inset into wall corners. Signage panels are changeable to allow for updates and the reconfiguration of interior spaces in the future.
