UCLA engaged a high-profile team to design an archetypal facility to replace the earthquake-damaged medical center. A colossal, 10-story tower was conceived as the new home for Mattel Children’s Hospital and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, and encompassing 525 private patient rooms, diagnostic and treatment departments, specialty services, clinical laboratories, a pharmacy, faculty offices, and food services.

SKA provided wayfinding and signage expertise. The scope encompassed site, exterior building, parking garage, building directories, directional, informational, regulatory, code and donor recognition signage. Contextually-sensitive exterior signs support the scale and form of the building edifice, while interior signs intuitively couple with architectural elements to reinforce wayfinding. Donor recognition opportunities were also assimilated into the sign program.
