Los Angeles Metro Rail Lines

Los Angeles, California

Metro Rail is a rapid transit rail system with 80 stations throughout Los Angeles County and an average daily ridership in excess of 360,000 people. It connects with the Metro Rapid Bus system and the Metrolink commuter rail system. It encompasses six separate lines: Red, Purple, Gold, Blue, Expo and Green lines. SKA has been commissioned under several different contracts to provide signage-consulting services as follows:

Metro Gold Line
This light rail line spans between East Los Angeles and Pasadena, passing through Little Tokyo and several other communities along the way. There are currently 20 stations along the route. Under three separate contracts, SKA has developed comprehensive sign packages for these stations, addressing both platform and park & ride lots. SKA first established the line’s signature color and then customized Metro’s standard sign designs to integrate with the unique character of each station.

Metro Blue Line
This light rail line joins downtown’s financial district to the south-central communities and ultimately the port community of Long Beach. The line is a combination of underground and at-grade stations. There are currently 22 stations along the route. For the project, SKA prepared identification signage for platform, park & ride lots, maintenance and central control facilities, as well as right-of-way signing. The line’s signature color was developed under this contract.

Metro Green Line
This fully-elevated light rail line runs between Redondo Beach and Norwalk, and offers indirect access to Los Angeles International Airport (via shuttle bus). There are currently 13 stations along the route. SKA prepared identification signage for platform and park & ride lots, as well as restrictive and regulatory signing. In addition, the scope encompassed selection of the system’s signature color.
