University of Redlands

Redlands, California

Role: Prime Consultant
Size: 160 acres

For more than 20 years, SKA has partnered with the university as go-to consultant for implementing relevant signage and wayfinding capital improvements. This role has covered:

Signage Master Plan
This project provides a cornerstone to development by setting a strategy for campus-wide wayfinding, donor recognition programs, and building signage systems relative to the distinctive architecture. The plan outlines design and performance specifications with criteria for fabrication and installation, while serving to protect and promote the campus brand.

Following the plan’s completion, SKA was tasked with developing individual sign programs for application to sundry campus facilities including the aquatic center, gymnasium, athletic stadium, performance venues, cafeteria, student service facilities, science research complex and student housing. Signs were formed of porcelain panels with vinyl copy that emulate the variety of modern mission architectural styles found on campus, and changeable European-style flag signs are a key element of pedestrian wayfinding.

Center for the Arts
As major renovations altered the 42,000 sq. ft. building’s configuration and egress, SKA was signed to assess the impact on wayfinding and implement relevant updates to site and building signage. SKA provided survey, analysis, documentation and construction observation services in developing exterior identity and area identification signs. The program met LEED Gold standards.

Hunsaker University Center
SKA prepared exterior site and vehicular directional signage to support the food services building, which serves as a primary gathering space within the core of the campus.
