Bob Hope Airport (BUR)

Burbank, California

Bob Hope Airport is an accessible two-terminal airport that provides commercial passenger service to regional travelers who prefer to avoid the bustle of LAX. Over the past 15 years, SKA has provided signage-consulting services to the airport, in both a prime and sub-consulting capacity. This work has encompassed:

Signage Standards
SKA developed design criteria for exterior and site signage that provides a baseline standard in terms of sign sizes, shapes, colors, materials and vernacular. The standards address vehicular traffic, trailblazer and parking areas, as well as related signs for the adjacent rail and bus facility.

Airport Site Roadway
In direct collaboration with a sign engineer, SKA developed designs for overhead roadway pylon signs to be placed at airport entrances and key points throughout the site. SKA developed full working drawings and coordinated bid and fabrication with a qualified sign vendor.

Remote Lot A
SKA prepared overhead and post-mounted vehicular directional, area identification and egress signing for this remote surface parking lot for employees. The signs reflect the design standards of the main airport site.

Valet Center
SKA developed a contract document package based on the Signage Standards for a sign program at the new valet center, which consisted of a services building, drop-off and pick-up areas, garage elevator lobbies, and covered walkways to the terminal. The package provided overhead directional, building identification, ADA-required identification, and evacuation plans for the project area.

Terminal A Baggage Claim
SKA prepared new identification, directional, informational and restrictive signs to accommodate the changes wrought by a remodel of the baggage claim area in Terminal A. SKA coordinated this effort directly with the consulting architect to create an integrated sign program.

Exterior Terminal Improvements
The Authority sought SKA to advise on a new color scheme for the terminal buildings and nearby parking structure. SKA specified hues that compliment the prevailing design theme and intent.
