Michael Sanchez founded the firm in 1965, and developed the firm’s business services of interior planning & design, graphic communication, and institutional product design. Over time, the firm came to emphasize the environmental graphics design services, as that field developed into a fully recognized discipline. In 1985, the firm became known as Sanchez/Kamps Associates Design after Marjorie Kamps became a firm partner.

In 2001, Michael took an advisory and oversight role to the firm as part of the transition of the firm to two long-term employees, Jon Fimbres and Joseph Stoddard. Michael retired in 2007 and continues to provide counsel to the firm as a member of the Board on matters of business development, client relations, and long-term planning.
